The Town of Stouffville and The Regional Municipality of York have officially broke ground on a new joint Fire and Paramedic Response Station at 4902 Aurora Road in Ballantrae. The new Fire Station 5-2 and Paramedic Services Station 20 represents a collaborative investment between the Town and York Region to enhance emergency response services in Stouffville’s growing northern area.
Features of the New Facility Size & Structure: The building will be about 18,500 sq ft with three fire bays and two ambulance bays to support 24/7 operations for both fire and paramedic crews. Optimized Layout: The station will be purpose-built to enable quicker dispatch, improve emergency response times, and serve as a contemporary hub for training, operations, and community readiness. Modern, Sustainable Design: The station is being designed to achieve LEED Silver certification for energy efficiency and sustainability. State-of-the-Art Spaces: It will include modern crew facilities, space for equipment, improved response dispatch capabilities, and room for training and operations planning.
Project Benefits
Improved Emergency Response: The new location and facility are intended to improve emergency response times and provide more efficient service for both fire and paramedic teams. Stronger Health & Safety Network: By co-locating fire and paramedic services, collaboration and resource sharing are improved, helping maintain high-quality patient care and public safety coverage across the region. Community Safety & Growth: It supports the town’s growth and community safety needs with modern infrastructure built for long-term use.
Current Phase/Status Site Servicing Phase: This phase prepares the property for construction by installing all essential underground infrastructure, including water, storm management systems, electrical, and fire protection services, along with on-site sanitary infrastructure. This stage also includes rough grading, road base construction, and required inspections to ensure the site is fully operational for building activities. This critical phase establishes the foundation for safe, efficient construction and long-term reliability of the new station. While the timing of this phase is heavily weather-dependent, the construction team will take advantage of all available opportunities to advance the work and identify efficiencies to complete the phase as quickly as possible.
York Region and the Town of Stouffville are building safer, stronger and more resilient communities for today and for generations to come. Construction will be led by Pegah Construction Limited, with architectural design by Thomas Brown Architects Inc. The total project cost is approximately$14.5 million, with funding shared between the Town and the Region. Substantial completion is expected in fall 2027.
