Timeline: Design: 2025–2026 | Construction subject to funding and approvals
Project Overview
The Town is planning an expansion to the Stouffville Leisure Centre to help meet the needs of our growing community and improve access to recreation, aquatic programming and active living opportunities.
The current pool is operating at full capacity and swimming lessons often fill quickly resulting in waitlists. The pool supports recreational swim programming and is the home of the Stouffville Swim Club.
Background / Existing Conditions
The Leisure Centre currently includes a pool, slide, teaching/therapy pool, fitness centre, gymnasium and community spaces. As Stouffville continues to grow, demand for recreation programming is increasing.
In 2025, Council approved funding for the design of a pool expansion. The design work was awarded to Salter Pilon Architecture in July 2025. Since then, Town staff have been working with the consultant on a proposed expansion that would add aquatic capacity and create new opportunities for programming.
Goals of the Project
The current schematic design includes an expansion of approximately 25,000 to 30,000 ft2 into the existing courtyard area.
Proposed features include:
A new 6-lane, 25-metre pool
Universal changeroom with 20-24 individual stalls and four fully accessible stalls
Proposed second-floor walking track
Studio spaces for programming
New entrance beside a new parking area
Approximately 84 additional parking spaces
Relocated reception desk
Proposed concession/café area
Opportunities to repurpose existing space for additional programming
Funding
The construction phase is currently identified in the Town’s 2026–2030 Long Range Capital Budget Forecast as a growth project, with construction anticipated in 2027 pending funding availability.
It is estimated this expansion will cost between $27.5 million to $30 million. The Town is seeking funding support through the federal Build Communities Strong Fund.
